11. Doctor Who Has Become The River Song/Amy/Clara Show!
Let's great straight down to business and discuss the Doctor's wife (no not that one; it is very much the Tardis's show as it is the Doctor's). You might love River Song or hate her, but to suggest that Doctor Who has ever become the River Song show is frankly ridiculous. River Song has appeared in 14 episodes across four series; eight episodes are in fact four two-part stories and she had little more than a cameo in the closing moments of another, which should qualify her as an occasional recurring character. Sure she was a central player in series six, but the on-going arc of that particular run was the Doctor's death, not her past (which was covered within four key episodes). Now the mystery of her story has been told, she popped up just twice in series seven and any future appearances are likely to be no more than fleeting. That doesn't mean she shouldn't return: the idea of her facing off against Peter Capaldi is a mouth-watering prospect to say the least. As for Amy and Clara, the mystery behind the companion may have been the staple of the Eleventh Doctor's era but they were never the primary focus: the cracks in space and time; the death of the Doctor - Amy (and Rory's) story ran underneath this main arc, and it certainly wasn't the focus of the show. God forbid that Doctor Who might have layers to its story telling! And sure Clara may have been the focus of a mini arc, but that's tied up now (quite satisfying in my opinion) in The Name Of The Doctor, and in the last two stories she has been a great support character to the Doctor himself.
