Doctor Who: 10 Final Candidates For The 12th Doctor

By Edward Owen /

10. Harry Lloyd

The Doctors do appear to be getting younger, and if this continues to be the case then Harry Lloyd just might have a shot at the role. While he€™s only a year younger than Matt Smith in real life, he looks a lot younger than his 29 years €“ something which may stand him in good stead when having to marry the Doctor€™s old intellect with his eternal youth. Of course, it would take an actor of considerable prowess to pull this off, and for my money, Lloyd could be just the man €“ most famously last seen getting gold-cauldroned (if you€™ve seen it, you€™ll know what it means) as Viserys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, he€™s played thugs (see Channel 4€™s The Game), Shakespeare (the Hollow Crown series) and Denis Thatcher in the past, and taken them all on with great skill. If anything, I think his Doctor might resemble his Thatcher €“ the combination of an old soul in a young body and outrageous British-ness are both prerequisite traits for the Timelord. Lloyd also possesses what seems to be a common role for anyone looking to take on a role in Doctor Who €“ he€™s been in the show before. What could work for or against him was that this role wasn€™t a cameo €“ he was a villain in possibly the best two episodes of NuWho, Human Nature and Family of Blood. The man was bloody terrifying as Jeremy Baines/Son of Mine but the problem could be he was perhaps too memorable €“ if he does take the role, we€™ll be waiting for the manic eyes to pop out again.
