Doctor Who: 8 Classic Monsters That Should Return In Series 9
The monster mash.
Series 9 of Doctor Who is fast approaching (but somehow not quite fast enough!) and speculation is rife as ever as to which - if any - classic enemies may be returning to our screens. Since NuWho's hugely successful debut in 2005, it's become a bit of a favourite trope of those behind the scenes to re-imagine, reinvent and re-purpose classic series monsters, slap on some new age gloss, and throw them bodily back onto our screens, much to the delight of fans young and old. In Series 1 of the refreshed Doctor Who alone, fans saw the return of the Autons and the Daleks, along with references to a plethora of other vintage monsters including the Cybermen. This self-referential nature helps to create a tangeable link between the past and the present. Old Who and NuWho are, actually, the same Who. While many fan favourite monsters have already been seen in the revived series, there's a veritable rogues gallery of wonderful weirdos just crying out for a modern day iteration. Over 50 years the Doctor has fought with bug-eyed aliens, Machiavellian monsters and just plain crazy people. Many of them may have been lost, relegated to the annals of history. Some, however are ripe for the picking. Click forth to see just which nefarious nasties make our list, and they're probably not the ones you'll be expecting...
