Doctor Who Star Alex Kingston On "Missed Opportunity" For River Song
Make it happen, BBC!
Doctor Who star Alex Kingston has shared what she believes was a big missed opportunity for her fan-favourite character, River Song.
River's final appearance in the show was in the 2015 Christmas special The Husbands of River Song, and though her story has continued in expanded media novels and audio dramas, there's one thing she still hasn't done that Kingston would like to see one day – and it involves Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.
In an exclusive interview with WhoCulture's Ellie Littlechild, Kingston said: "Jodie and I have met and we've had conversations about this, about how we felt that it was a missed opportunity that they didn't share an adventure together on BBC television."
"And so I'm 100% sure that there's a writer somewhere who's already coming up with some sort of adventure storyline that brings the two of us together, because I think it would be absolutely fantastic and I know it's what the fans would love."
Of course, with Jodie Whittaker recently venturing into the expanded media world herself (via the Big Finish audio dramas), there's a genuine chance that the two characters could meet one day. And with onscreen Doctor Who expanding with a Whoniverse of spinoffs, who's to say that River couldn't get her own show one day?
Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor is another character Kingston would be keen to cross paths with, adding: "And then of course, with Ncuti's Doctor... who has the better outfit?"
It would certainly be a showcase of two of Doctor Who's sharpest dressers, wouldn't it?
