Doctor Who: Top 10 "Puppy Kick" Moments

By Hayley May Phillips /

When we say €˜puppy kick€™, we mean a moment that is so blisteringly sad, so gut-wrenchingly painful to see, it is like watching a small, adorable, fluffy puppy being kicked black and blue. At least that€™s how it feels to watch these scenes. As a massive Doctor Who fan, I€™ve been hopelessly sucked into the storylines; the dramas. I spend my Saturday nights glued to the screen, silently rooting for certain relationships to evolve and trying to work out the plotlines. I rarely can. It€™s a mark of good writing that they catch us off guard with twists and turns. And when the twists and turns are this saddening, it€™s no wonder tears are pouring down our cheeks as we watch the pain unfurl. There are so many moments just throughout the reboot series€™, so I€™ve decided to stick to just that. I€™ve watched, re-watched and continually sobbed at these €˜puppy kicks€™ but I have managed to narrow it down to just ten moments. So grab yourself a tissue and read on to find out.

10. Amy€™s Baby Is Taken €“ A Good Man Goes To War

This is only a small part of the episode and it doesn€™t last for long, which is why it only places at number ten. After having her baby stolen from her, moments after its birth, Amy is reunited with little Melody Pond in the sweetest scene with new-father Rory. But the joy doesn€™t last for long; the Headless Monks attack. Amy hides, hearing the Doctor€™s friends die, as she cradles her new born. The Doctor is contacted by Kovarian, the woman in charge of the opposition, who had previously kidnapped Amy. She tells him that she will turn Amy€™s child into a weapon. The Doctor scoffs, knowing that Amy has the child. Kovarian smiles, pleased that she was able to fool the Doctor so many times. He realises his mistake and runs to find Amy and Rory. However at the same moment, Amy is holding the child in her arms. A hatch opens, seen only by the baby, and Kovarian appears. Melody melts in Amy€™s arms, a ganger of the real child who has been stolen. Amy sits amongst the goo of her melted baby, shocked and pained. She screams out for Rory to help her. A stolen child is a horror for any parent and can be understood by many. It is a terrible wrench to see even a character go through the terrible emotion.
