One of the night's big emotional moments came when Jeffrey Tambor gave a touching introduction to a video tribute to his friend, the late, great comic legend Garry Shandling, who died earlier this year.

The tribute didn't have any bells or whistles and certainly no elaborate musical performances: it was a simple, tasteful montage of some of Shandling's funniest comedy routines, nothing more, nothing less.
Anyone who has to ask why Shandling got his own delineated tribute away from the annual In Memoriam montage has clearly never seen the man's work, and his influence on TV comedy was evident no better than by the clear adulation shown from the crowd during Tambor's speech.
