12. Altered Carbon

Netflix have already developed some sci-fi shows, but they're making a big push in the genre with Altered Carbon, a visually impressive adaptation of Richard K. Morgan's novel of the same name.

Although the early word has been quite mixed, the premise - a mystery set 500 years in the future, where the UN oversees a number of extrasolar planets settled on by humans - is very intriguing, the source material highly-regarded, and it does look great. There's not long to find out whether it works or not, as this is the first major Netflix original release of the year.
