Falcon & The Winter Soldier: 10 Biggest Takeaways From Episode 3
10. Baron Zemo's Mask
Behind the Red Skull, Helmut Zemo is arguably Captain America's second greatest foe from the comics, however when he was introduced in Civil War, the MCU made several big changes to him.
The character was from Sokovia, whereas his comic book counterpart was German, he was given a new motivation to hate the Avengers, and he was without his trademark purple mask. It was more important to portray him as a normal man who had lost everything than as a maniacal super-villain at this point.
However, episode three of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finally gave fans of the franchise what they'd been after for years. As Sam, Bucky, Sharon, and Zemo were attacked by bounty hunters in Madripoor, the latter donned his infamous mask and fought back, killing several men in the process.
It's currently unknown the exact reasoning behind the mask in the confines of the MCU, but this will surely be revealed before the end of the series, and will likely be completely different to the comics. As well as the classic look, Marvel Studios also gave the character his classic name, finally addressing him as Baron Zemo, revealing his title and the money that allowed him and his new teammates to travel the world so easily.
