10. His Father Is Responsible For Freezing Captain America

Before Baron Helmut Zemo became one of Captain America's most recurring foes, the patriotic superhero spent years going head-to-head with his demented father, Heinrich Zemo.

After having his mind twisted by Nazi ideals, Heinrich became a scientist for Adolf Hitler. When Cap spilled a chemical called Adhesive X on him, Heinrich's face was burned permanently, giving him a seething hatred for the super-soldier.

To exact his revenge, Heinrich had Cap and his sidekick, Bucky, strapped to a drone plane. When the two heroes broke free, Bucky attempted to divert the drone's route, causing the plane to detonate. It was this explosion that caused Captain America to plunge into the sea where he was cryonically frozen for decades. Despite the fact Bucky was believed to have died in the blast, he was found by the Russians and reprogrammed as a personal assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

Ironically, Captain America and the Winter Soldier would have never been able to help the heroes of the modern times if it wasn't for Heinrich Zemo.
