One of Tobias' ominous statements of doom is that the power will go and with it, the internet and phones will cease to function. In a way, that doesn't even sound like a bad thing... But when humanity is clinging onto survival, communication is crucial. The power is intermittent, dropping in and out, but when will it finally collapse? Things are only getting worse, so it has to be soon, and an hour without Facebook or Candy Crush would probably accelerate any societal collapse far quicker than just a few shootings...
