When a member of the hospital staff comes to assist him with relieving himself, Nick takes advantage of the compassion of the nurse to get his protective restraints removed. During the scene we can hear the elderly man in the bed adjacent to him breathing heavily, and it sounds like he isn't long for this world. Sure enough he begins coding, and in the ensuing chaos Nick gets out of bed and makes a break for it, fleeing the hospital. Moments later Travis and Madison arrive at the hospital to visit Nick only to discover that he's no longer there. The mother's outrage is met with indifference as all hell seems to breaking loose throughout the hospital and the staff makes it clear that a fully grown junkie deciding to leave of his own free will is the least of their concerns. This prompts Madison to demand that Travis take her to the church where Nick had been staying - the shooting gallery as it was referred to earlier - to see where it all began.
