In 2002, one of the greatest crimes in television history was committed: Firefly was cancelled after only one season. Because of disputes between Joss Whedon and 20th Century Fox, episodes of the space western were shown out of order; this made it difficult for viewers to feel that the show had a consistent plot line, tone, and/or character development, which led to poor viewing figures. Fortunately, after the show was released on DVD and on Netflix and the episodes could be watched in the right order, its genius was clear. Fans - "Browncoats," after the name for the Independent soldiers fighting against the unjust Alliance - rose up in protest of its cancellation. This resulted in the movie Serenity, where the characters and story lines were given some closure. It still remains a shame that a brilliant show that could have easily lasted six or seven seasons only lasted for one, simply because of studio politics. Here I'll endeavor to rank all the episodes from that one season from good to best - good, not worst, because Firefly didn't have any bad episodes. The "worst" ones still had amazing characters, intriguing plot lines, clever dialogue, and incredible visuals; the best ones are simply breathtaking in every aspect of production. We may not have gotten the six or seven seasons Firefly clearly deserved, but at least we have one incredible first season. SPOILERS ahead; you've been warned.
