Leela’s heritage was long kept a mystery in the world of Futurama. Thought to be an alien, and the last of her kind, the Planet Express captain had always been alone, until Leela’s Homeworld. It was in this episode that she learned that she wasn’t an alien at all, she was and always had been a mutant.
While running through the sewers, Fry, Bender, and Leela stumbled across some sort of shrine to the latter, with pictures and newspaper clippings. Built by her parents to remember her, the room also prominently featured the best things she ever flushed down the toilet.
Pages from her diary, her screenplay, and a letter full of Fry’s personal thoughts and feelings. Leela’s admirer was never any good at expressing his love for her, though she was ultimately won over by his moving of the stars themselves, and his touching musical written for her.
Clearly there was something romantic in Fry, and if Leela had actually read the love letter instead of flushing it down the toilet, maybe they'd have ended up together a lot sooner. Seriously, who flushes a love letter down the toilet?!
