Tyrion's journey to Meereen played out rather differently on the show, as a couple of his most notable travelling companions were missing: the characters presented to us as Griff and his son, Young Griff. Although Griff is said to be just a sellsword, albeit one who Illyrio Mopatis trusts completely, Tyrion isn't so sure, and learns some secrets by playing cyvasse with the crew members. This leads to him deducting the true identity of Young Griff: Aegon Targaryen, the son of Prince Rhaegar, who was thought to have been killed as a baby. This is a huge revelation, and a potentially game changing one. If true, then Aegon has an extremely strong claim to the Iron Throne, while as the son of the popular Rhaegar he'd likely be accepted more readily than Daenerys. However, the show has seemingly decided not to include Aegon, which alters things for the story of Varys, possibly Daenerys, and may point to Aegon being a fake in the books.
