9. What Will Sam Learn At The Citadel?

Sam's storyline didn't really go anywhere this season, given he only appeared in three episodes and didn't arrive at the Citadel (his purpose when leaving Castle Black in Season 5) until the finale.

With just two seasons and around 13 episodes left, there's certainly not enough time for him to become a true Maester, so what exactly is the point of Sam's storyline now (especially with Jon no longer the Lord Commander, and the Night's Watch currently not a focus of the show)?

What seems most likely is that he'll learn a key piece of knowledge that is going to help Westeros in the coming battle against the White Walkers, whether it's about their origins, or what can be used to defeat them. Perhaps it could even tie in with the glass candles found at the Citadel in the books; made of obsidian, these allow users to see across vast distances - could this be how Sam learns about what's happened to Jon, or perhaps even discovers some crucial information about the White Walkers, maybe even seeing the far North and where they're based?
