Its looking pretty bad, and Dany closes her eyes, grasps Missandeis hand, and prepares for the worst. Then we hear a cry from above the pit, and down swoops Drogon. He starts to take out the Sons, destroying them with fire or simply tearing them apart, before hes slightly wounded by some spears. Its what happens next that provides a total show-stopping moment, as Daenerys approaches her dragon, calms him, and then climbs onto his back and they fly off together. Sure, you can complain about the rendering of the special effects, but thats likely to do with so much of the budget going on last weeks episode, and a credit to how much the show makes you forget that this is on TV, not in a cinema. More important than how it looked was the fact that Dany was finally riding a dragon, a moment book readers have been waiting for all season, and a moment everyone has been waiting for ever since she first emerged from Khal Drogos funeral pyre. Theres lingering questions over what this means for the people shes just leaving behind, and uncertainty over where shes headed, but for now just enjoy the spectacle and climax of the Mother of Dragons at last taking to the sky.
