The Show The writers did a brilliant bait-and-switch, threatening Jaimes eye and then turning around and chopping off his hand. Its a moment so sudden you dont understand its happening, and the show then cut to rock musica fantastic musical way of saying the s**t has hit the fan now. The Book Like Ned, it happens so fast you have to read it again. The first time you read it you actually dont know what happenedall you know is that Jaime thinks to himself he would never scream for this man, and then the chapter closes with him screaming. The reader doesnt know whats happening until his next chapter, when his hands around his neck. The Verdict: The Book Theres anticipation in the book that the show just couldnt reproduce, a lingering fear of having the question what exactly happened there answered. That dread is an unusual experience for a reader, and Georges ability to create it made the whole thing much more difficult to handle.
