The Show The battle of Kings Landing is well under way, people are dying everywhere, and Tyrion has made the unbelievably stupid but necessary decision to lead the charge against Stanniss forces. In the confusion, a Kingsguard steps out of nowhere and slashes Tyrion across the face. He wakes up days later to find that hes lost everything he thought he had (except Shae), and now has a horrible scar across his face. The Book Tyrion is attacked by a Kingsguard while fighting on the river. He falls into the water and is almost killed, save for Podrick. Hes delirious for days, left dreaming of his long-lost wife. When he wakes up and sees himself, he finds that three-quarters of his nose and part of his lip are gone. His face has been sewed up, badly. Keep in mind that, in the book, Tyrion is quite deformed already, with lopsided and mismatched eyes. Verdict: The Book On the show, Tyrion at least had Shae, and his wound wasnt disfiguring. In the book, Shae is just a personality-less whore who would never dream of something as brave as taking the bandages off herself. And the horribleness of the deformity in the book speaks for itself.
