Game Of Thrones: Every Season 7 Episode Ranked Worst To Best

By Simon Gallagher /

1. 'The Dragon And The Wolf'

It's surprising - given the precedent - that the penultimate episode of Thrones season 7 wasn't the run-away winner of this ranking, because that seems to be the rules. And really, there's very little between the best moments of each of the highest three episodes, it's just that 'The Dragon And The Wolf' was just as good in its more reserved moments as it was when it was utterly batsh*t crazy.

After a season accused of too much fan-service and cheap thrills (an accusation that belongs on the big pile of terrible takes), the finale delivered revelations, stunning full-stops (particularly on Littlefinger) and world-changing, unprecedented action.

We got to see Jon and Dany's romance blossom, Jaime turn his back on Cersei, The Hound and The Mountain facing off, Littlefinger killed, the marriage of Rhaegar and Lyanna and then the stunning dragon attack on The Wall. It was, at times, almost too much to take. And crucially, as well as delivering in great moments, it set up even more of them for the final season, which now feels about 10 years away.

That cheap emotionally manipulative bullsh*t with Tormund and Beric at the end was unnecessary (though it was successful), but it at least added a bit of a cliffhanger for the most rightly beloved character in the show.

Best Moment:

The Wall falls.

Worst Moment:

The Wall potentially falls on Tormund's head.
