5. It Focuses On Targaryen History

As both titles, House of The Dragon and Fire and Blood suggest, this is indeed a tale about the Targaryen family. These dragon-blooded loose cannons had a monumental impact on the storyline Game of Thrones was based on, A Song of Ice and Fire; from the first episode, right up to the final one.

The Targaryens were known to be ruthless and powerful leaders, who could command dragons to do their bidding. Daenerys Targaryen infamously mothered three of them in both the books and the main HBO show. This family had a history of ruling Westeros, with tales of Daenerys’ father, The Mad King, and his horrific reign being a regular focal point of the story.

However, the history of Targaryens reigning over Westeros stretches far further back than the time of The Mad King. Fire and Blood covers the ruling of various Targaryen monarchs throughout time, with the story beginning approximately 300 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire. This was a time when there were not just three living dragons, but many- An age of fire and, of course, blood.

Given the subject matter being covered, we can only hope that HBO throws a Hell of a budget at this show too.
