Death: Injured by an un-dead bear beyond the Wall, before subsequently freezing to death.

Aside from Viseryion and Benjen Stark, Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) was the only particularly major character to die in the battle beyond the Wall. To be honest, it's likely many saw this coming as he was by far the most expendable of the ranging party in terms of the story.

His death was... fine. Death by the undead, especially an undead bear, is certainly a memorable demise for any character.
