Game of Thrones Season 3: 10 Characters Who Underwhelmed

By Edward Owen /

6. Meera Reed

My Dad watches Game of Thrones and frankly, that€™s awesome. I know some people don€™t like watching shows with their parents but it€™s quite nice to be able to speak to him about something which interests the both of us. Because he doesn€™t spend his days on the internet like I do and hasn€™t read the books, he naturally has less knowledge than me. But aside from doggedly calling Eddard Stark Sean Bean, he€™s got a good grasp of the characters and can be trusted to pick them out in a line-up. However, whenever Meera turned up, my Dad always wondered who she was and frankly, if I hadn€™t read the books and followed the casting, I€™d be in the same boat. This girl seemed to flick in and out of existence almost at will in Bran€™s storyline €“she probably got even less screen-time than Rickon, and that€™s pretty much the cruellest insult you can receive in Game of Thrones. Don€™t get me wrong, she€™s a good character on page and she€™s played by a good actress in Ellie Kendrick (seriously, she€™s awesome in Being Human), but at the moment she hasn€™t had much to do. Ostensibly, she€™s there to protect Bran€™s group and gather things to eat, but having the role as €˜the help€™ doesn€™t really lend itself well to dramatic monologue-ing. We can only hope she comes to the forefront north of The Wall next season, especially considering how threatening it is up there these days. But until then, she€™ll just be skinning rabbits in the background €“ not the most thrilling activity, and since Osha€™s split from the group, they can€™t even liven it up with bickering either.
