Jon must take back Winterfell, and when he does so, there can't be any mercy, just a glorious death. The detailed description of how Ramsay intended to kill Jon could be inflicted upon the new Bolton himself, but it feels like Jon would opt for a Ned-like approach.

If the citizens of the North were in any doubt over who Jon really is, passing the sentence and swinging the sword in Ned-like fashion would seem like a fitting way to win the hearts of those who haven't already subscribed the idea of a new Stark.
