Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Oathbreaker'
7. Tommen And The High Sparrow
The more the weeks go on, the more detestable the High Sparrow becomes. At the same time, though, he continues to be great value, and Jonathan Pryce is one of the best performers in King's Landing.
This week finds him confronted by King Tommen, who wants him to allow his mother to see Myrcella's body. This is a different Tommen to the one we're used to seeing, someone who is prepared to take decisive action, and maybe even by force if necessary.
But then the High Sparrow does what he does best: he talks. And he reasons. And Tommen listens, a little too closely for fans of House Lannister. The High Sparrow is steadfast in his Faith, but incredibly clever at sensing who he can and can't manipulate, and Tommen definitely looks like falling into the former. Having arrived full of hell, by the end he's listening intently to the Sparrow's explanation about what the Gods want, and it further sets up the brewing conflict between the Faith and the Lannisters.
