Game of Thrones has finally returned to our screens, not quite with a bang but a quietly effective Season 7 premiere.

Dragonstone was very much in keeping with the well-established season opener template: it checked in with a number of major characters, following on from the Season 6 finale, and was more concerned with table setting than any huge narrative developments.

That's not to say it was a bad episode; far from it, even. There were some excellent character moments within this first opening hour, especially for Arya Stark and Sandor Clegane, and one particular 'hell yes!' scene. We also got a couple of lines of pure hilarity (again, the Hound is MVP there), a makeover for one of the show's biggest villains, some key new characters, and a few interesting teases of where it's all headed over the next few weeks.

Game of Thrones will probably need to move at a faster pace this year, with only seven episodes in the season (and definitely faster than it does here), and that means we should soon be getting some answers to the questions left behind by Dragonstone.
