Game Of Thrones Season 8: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Last Of The Starks'

2. Logic Gaps

HBO

Game of Thrones doesn't always make complete sense. This was a big issue with Season 7, where there were characters transporting all over the map, and while transport isn't too much of an issue in this episode (although the journey times could be better portrayed), there are some logic gaps.

These begin with Bronn, who somehow strolls into Winterfell wielding a crossbow, and comes within a whisker of actually killing the Lannister brothers, without (as far as we know) anyone even questioning him. Then there's the fact that no one can see Euron and his fleet because they're hiding behind a rock, and sure it might be a big mountain or whatever, but Daenerys is on a dragon (and sure, it's necessary for the shock death, but it still feels sloppy).

Even the idea of Daenerys not approaching with caution, when she has seen first hand the weapons Cersei has AND has lost people to Euron's sneak attacks before, is hard to buy. Then Euron, in the midst of the madness, is somehow able to capture Missandei despite everyone else making it off the boats ok. And to top it all off, after having one of her dragons killed, Dany still takes Drogon to the meeting with Cersei, where the walls are lined with scorpions and he (and all of them, for that matter) could feasibly be killed at any point (but of course aren't).

There's some great character work in this episode, but the narrative work, not so much.
