As predicted by anyone who had seen the teaser for this week's instalment, the episode comes to a close with Tyrion on the battlements of Winterfell, looking out as the army of the dead arrives at their door.

The shot of the hooves planting down is every bit as chilling as it was in the Season 8 trailer, and equally so is when the camera then reveals a number of White Walkers coming into shot. This is it. This is what the whole episode has been building towards. What the whole show, in a sense, has been building towards. The dead aren't coming. The dead are here. Everyone is absolutely f**ked, and it's as thrilling as it is absolutely terrifying, something that the episode manages to capture in the space of 30 seconds here.
