Game Of Thrones Season 8: Expect MONUMENTAL Episodes To Be "Like Episode 9s"
So says Samwell Tarly. And he knows everything.
It already goes without saying that the final season of Game Of Thrones - which feels about a decade away, currently - is going to be one of the most hotly anticipated TV events of all time. If not the biggest of all.
It promises to go out with a bang the likes of which we've never seen before, with each episode costing a fortune and some frankly ridiculous stakes that could see pretty much every character in real danger of death. We're all going to be a mess by the time it's over, that's for sure.
And now John Bradley - who plays Sam Tarly on the show - has spoken to The Huffington Post to reiterate that those final six episodes will be "monumental." He was speaking in the wake of the announcement that veteran Thrones directors Miguel Sapochnik and David Nutter are returning for season 8.
"Clearly every single episode of the six you’ve got left in Season 8 is gonna be monumental and needs somebody at the helm who’s done that kind of high-stakes, high-octane direction before for us. We assembled a team of directors this year who have been in charge of some of our big episodes in the past. Miguel and David have done some of the standout episodes of previous seasons."
In case you needed a reminder, Sapochnik helmed directed "Hardhome," "Battle of the Bastards," and "The Winds of Winter," and Nutter's highlights include "A Man Without Honor" and "The Rains of Castamere." if we're taking anything from those episodes to map out what to expect in Season 8, it's that we'll get scale, spectacle and bloody slaughters. Just as you'd both hope and fear.
Bradley also excitingly teases that we're getting no fillers next season:
"I think you're gonna get six ‘Episode 9s’"
Now that's the kind of talk we all want to hear.
The interview also offered Bradley a chance to address Sam's most controversial moment in Season 7 - when he seemingly took credit for Gilly's discovery of the annulment of Rhaegar Targaryen's marriage to Elia Martell:
"It’s not about him ... taking credit for her idea. He probably wasn’t even aware of where he heard that information. He just knows he heard it somewhere in the air, and he was able to pick it up and process it."
So maybe stop giving him such a hard time, yeah?
