At long last, we finally have a proper trailer for Game of Thrones Season 8.

There have been cryptic (and Crypts-ic) teasers without any actual new footage, about five seconds from the season premiere, and a whole bunch of character photos that don't really reveal a great deal, but it's taken until now - just 40 days out from the new season - to get a real look at the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

And. It. Looks. Incredible.

As you'd expect, the trailer doesn't really give a great deal away. We know that this season is being shaped by the battle between the army of the living and the army of the dead, with the centrepiece at Winterfell - and oh boy, are they teasing that and then some. Rather than plot, the focus here is very much on setting the tone for Season 8, and that tone specifically is dread. So much dread. It's ominous and awful and suggests we're going to be saying goodbye to a whole bunch of fan-favourites. Also, there's lots of dragon action.

it's a masterclass in establishing the mood, creating atmosphere, building excitement, and giving away just enough, all of which requires much closer inspection (after another rewatch, of course).
