4. The Teased Story Details

HBO

Without going into too much detail in terms of the story, there are some great little teases here that seem to suggest big story details. In other words, we get a lot of serious teases that will inspire the questions that will help drive the marketing for the final season as it gets closer.

Questions like what Arya is running from, what is making Cersei cry, what Gendry is specifically forging (because he's not just going to be a nondescript ironmonger for the entire season), why Jaime is shouting BRONN like that and what the hell has happened to The Hound.

The teaser is excellent at dropping these little threads in that unravel huge narrative points and there's absolutely no hint of an answer in there. That leads to informed speculation (and hysteria, but that's fine), suiting the purpose of a trailer being a part of the journey rather than a destination in itself.

There's something big to be said about the way the trailer marries the dialogue to the images. Having Arya say "death" and showing Ser Davos, matching the sight of Varys with "many faces", and showing Jorah and Gendry on "doesn't stop" is all terribly clever. However, showing Grey Worm at the point Jon Snow says "doesn't feel" is a little harsh considering his... condition.
