Game Of Thrones: The Last Watch Review - 8 Ups & 3 Downs
5. Andrew McClay (And The "Little People")
He may not be a major player in the show, but Andrew McClay is Game Of Thrones royalty and watching him throughout the documentary is magic. This is an enthusiastic, knowledgable fan who has been invited into the inner circle and he acts exactly as all of us proper fans would. The see him discussing why House Stark is best around production-weary actors in a maelstrom of busy-ness is just wonderfully infectious.
You will want to meet him. You will want to hear more of Thrones from him. And luckily, you can, because as the credits show, he's a tour guide and it's very much a great experience.
And beyond him, we get to see all of the "little people" who got Thrones from a muddy backlot mess to the polished screen gem it became. The super sweary Locations Manager, the security guard forced to field questions about the secret set from inquisitive passers-by, the extras wanting to know the alternative arrangements to smoking next to massive propane tanks. There is even a Head Of Snow who has to deal with the reality that it always just rains in Belfast and then that when it actually snows, it stops him doing his fake snow job. What shines through as we meet them all is the humour and the charm and the warmth.
This is particularly clear when it comes to the insight into Vladimír Furdík's experience. The veteran stuntman is astonished at his opportunity to play the Night King and talks about his troubled past and it's a very disarming thing to watch.
