Obara Sand is the oldest daughter of the Sand Snakes, Prince Oberyn's eight illegitimate daughters. Unlike many of her younger sisters, she is not known as a great beauty. She is however, a fierce warrior, and will likely play a significant role in the fifth season, as the casting information tells us that she will be having a fight scene with a major character on the show. Obara is hot-tempered, and the quickest to fight out of any of the Sand Snakes. There's something about Ruth Negga that makes us think she would be an interesting pick for the role. Sure, she's not exactly big-boned, as the character has sometimes been described, but she's not a classic beauty either. She's more striking than traditionally beautiful. And she has an incredibly intense demeanor that could be used to great effect as Obara. Back in 2003, she was nominated for an Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer, so we're confident that she can stand toe to toe with any of the other great actors that appear on the show.
