Gotham: 10 Things We Learned From The New Trailer

4. Gordon Mentors Bruce

Bruce Wayne is going to be challenging role, even in the reliable hands of David Mazouz. At a young age, he has already established himself as a very talented actor after starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland in Touch as his son. Fans have never truly seen a young, traumatised and devastated Bruce Wayne deal with his parents€™ murders in film or television before. Nolan touched on the aftermath briefly but this show has a real chance to do something unique. It€™s a different take on the familiar story of Bruce€™s journey to the cowl, with Gordon the one who guides him. Gordon appears in the trailer consoling Bruce and promising he will arrest the man who murdered his parents. A bond develops between the two as Gordon visits Bruce later, where the boy says he€™s learning to conquer fear. Gordon replies: €œFear doesn€™t need conquering, it tells you where the edge is.€ This is something Bruce later puts to practice in the trailer. The ability to inflict fear into criminals is one of Batman€™s greatest strengths. When the Bat Signal shines in the sky, criminals run scared and it is such an important part of Batman€™s legend. €œHowever dark and scary the world might be right now,€ Gordon says to Bruce. €œThere will be light.€ Little did he know, he is talking to that light. Gordon may not realise it now, but as he looks into the eyes of Bruce Wayne he€™s looking into the eyes of Gotham€™s future. The boy will don a costume that will scare criminals within an inch of their lives. He is mentoring a boy who will later become a great man, friend and ally.
