5. A Sneak Peek At The Man Who Will Become The Joker
It may seem somewhat contradictory to be bringing up another villain, but it would be interesting if the show threw in a cameo of the man who will eventually become The Joker. Quite who that is remains to be seen, because other than the 1989 Batman movie, Jokers real name has never been revealed, and not only that, but there has never been an official origin for him. As Joker said in The Killing Joke, which is often looked at by fans as the definitive Joker origin story, Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice! Its impossible for the series to give a Joker origin since his creation directly involved Batman, but it would be interesting if they gave us a sneak peek at this man before he became The Clown Prince Of Crime. After all, a man that psychotic and deranged most likely had issues even before his accident. Gotham should portray the man as a small-time thug working for one of the established crime bosses; despite his criminal background, its important that he not be excessively insane or murderous. Yes, hell hurt someone if his boss tells him to, but hes not at the point where hell be killing people for fun. Whats most important, however, is not to name him or delve into his personal life, as that would ruin the mystery. Instead, imply hes The Joker by having him fiddling with a Joker card or smiling in a distinctive way, or perhaps spin out the Joker origin as one of the things that will have fans guessing all season without ever giving a definitive answer until later in the show's run.
