Gotham seems like such a no-brainer of an idea, it's unbelievable nobody's done it before. What exactly was Batman's home city like, before there was a Dark Knight to protect it? How did cops like Jim Gordon struggle through prior to a masked vigilante providing some serious back-up? It delivered on that premise and then some, establishing a familiar but intriguing new world and cast. So, what's next? The first season of the Batman prequel show left the mystery of who killed Bruce Wayne's parents unsolved, but there are more pressing matters for the Gotham City Police Department as of the first season finale. The corruption within the organisation is getting worse, and the warring crime families are only getting worse. Not to mention all of these supervillain types who've started popping up. The table is set for an exciting second season, of a whopping 22 episodes, when the show returns in the fall. Expectations are rising quickly, and there are still plenty of kinks to iron out - the perfect storm for engrossing television. The main cast are a capable bunch, but putting them through their paces in a more intense manner wouldn't go amiss. More good guys, less of the corny Dark Knight call-backs (or is it foreshadows?), and for the love of all that is holy, give Renee Montoya a chance.
