When the initial promotional images of Gotham's iteration of Bane were unveiled, it's safe to say that a lot of people were unhappy. Other than that odd breathing mask the character was sporting, he bared little semblance to his comic book counterpart. However, if I Am Bane highlights anything, it's that these judgments were a bit premature.

As has been the case with other characters in the past, Gotham has borrowed from previous iterations of Bane - most notably The Dark Knight Rises - all the while adding their own level of originality to the villain.

The character received his superhuman strength from the toxins pumped into his skin - much like the Bane from Batman: The Animated Series - and while, he may not look as intimidating as his animated counterpart, he's every bit as dangerous. Shane West plays the part incredibly well, and the scene of Bane walking through fire is awe-inspiring to say the least. Here's hoping we see more of the character in the future.
