Gotham Season 5 Premiere: 7 Major Questions We Have After Year Zero
7. Why Is Ed Suffering From Blackouts?
Of course, when we're discussing questions related to Gotham, one of them would have to be centred around the prince of puzzlers himself, Edward Nygma. During Year Zero, Ed suffered from a series of blackouts. He often woke to find that he'd gone to sleep in a dumpster, which would be enough to annoy anyone - let alone someone as glamorous as Ed.
Nygma believes the blackouts to be the work of his other personality - the good Ed. If this does prove to be the case, it'll be a bit of a cop out considering this storyline has been explored several times on the show already. There is another possibility, however, and it's one that would be much more compelling.
If you remember back to the Season 4 finale, Ed was thought to be dead after a violent altercation with his love interest, Lee Thompkins. After discovering Ed's corpse, Oswald had his former friend's remains brought to Dr. Hugo Strange, hoping the crazed doctor would bring him back to life.
Considering he's, well, alive in Season 5, it would appear that Strange succeeded in his mission to revive Ed, but could Strange perhaps have messed with Ed's head in the process, or are the blackouts a mere side effect of whatever awful experiment the doc conducted on him?
