Green Lantern movie writers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim working on the pilot for a brand new series based on expert archer/costumed hero Oliver Queen.
Warner Bros are aiming to expand the DC Universe on the small screen. EW reports that a Green Arrow television series is being planned for The CW from the team that brought us last year's Green Lantern movie. Green Lantern movie writers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Fringe/Warehouse 13's Andrew Kreisberg will write and produce the pilot, which if successful would get a full series. This of course is not guaranteed on name recognition alone as the writers behind the Wonder Woman Pilot will attest to. A Booster Gold TV Pilot is already in the works with the characters "Blue Beetle", "Deadman" and "Spectre" expected to follow soon with their own pilots. A popular 'B' character of the DC Universe, Green Arrow follows Oliver Queen, a billionaire who leads a double life as a costumed hero whose expert skills with archery make for his iconic weapon. The character dates back to 1941 when he made his first appearance in "More Fun Comics" #73. Of course the character has already debuted on the small screen as part of the Smallville show on the CW Network. Justin Hartley played that version of the character, eventually becoming a series regular but we would suspect this won't be a Smallville spin-off but a brand new original series. Whether Oliver Queen will be a grizzled veteran or wear a Robin Hood style costume is questionable. We should mention that Warner Bros attempted several years ago to make a big screen film out of Green Arrow when Batman Begins and Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer & Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li scribe Justin Marks pitched Super Max, a movie that would find Green Arrow wrongfully locked up in prison alongside many major (The Joker, Lex Luthor) and obscure DC comics villains we find out he previously captured and put away. The film was described as a superhero 'Shawshank Redemption' as he follow Oliver Queen breaking out of prison and hunting down the man who put him there. The film was never greenlit and when Warner Bros struggled to get Green Lantern (which they eventually did last year), Wonder Woman and The Flash on the big screen, they forgot about Queen. Not to mention that they never trusted putting The Joker & Lex Luthor in a film that wasn't Batman or Superman.
