HBO have finally set a release date for Westworld, the long-gestating TV series inspired by the 1973 film of the same name.

The series has been in various stages of development over the last few years, and been eagerly anticipated for quite some time now, especially once it's cast - which includes Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, James Marsden, and Tessa Thompson - was revealed.

Production was halted earlier in the year, putting a planned 2016 debut into doubt. But while there isn't a specific date, HBO have confirmed that the 10-episode series will premiere in the fall.

A dark odyssey, coming from Jonathan Nolan and Bad Robot, the show is "set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past," and "explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged."

This one has been high on my list of anticipated shows for some time now, so despite the production issues it's great to hear that it's finally coming to our screens in 2016. HBO also released a sort-of teaser (basically just a gif) for the series, which you can see below:

Aside from Westworld, HBO also confirmed fall releases for three new comedy series: Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker as a woman going through a divorce; Insecure, starring Issa Rae, which will look at the friendship between two black women; and High Maintenance, about a Brooklyn pot dealer, starring Ben Sinclair.
