8. Make Hiro Nakamura Loveable Again With A Real Purpose

Watching season one, could anyone have imagined that Masi Oka's loveable time-travelling hero Hiro Nakamura would becoming irritating? By the time he reverted to a child in season three, we were virtually clenching our teeth in every one of his scenes. Yet in the first season, fans adored his wide-eyed charm and wonder at the world unravelling around him. Perhaps it was inevitable that the darker the show got and the bigger the threat, Hiro's innocence would be swallowed up in the chaos. What the writers need to do is recapture some of that wonder he had at first, without making him so naive he becomes childish and irritating again. Learn what made him work and what didn't. Hopefully, having a break of five years since the show was on will help to make Hiro endearing once again. Giving his time travel power, the writers should be able to find some purpose to Hiro (and Ando's) journey, just like they had in season one when he tried to avert the destruction of New York, seen through his trip to the future and the brilliant 9th Wonders comic. Perhaps, giving his presence in the excellent season one episode 'Five Years Gone', the writers can take some of that character and place it into the Hiro presented in the new season five?
