House Of Cards: Ranking All The Main Characters From Worst To Best

2. Claire Underwood

Being one half of the Underwood machine was always going to be tricky casting but in Robin Wright they found their perfect woman to Kevin Spacey's man.

She is every bit as cunning, vindictive, and sociopathic as her husband, though she has more subtle ways of inflicting her will on people. In Claire Underwood the show had the only person who could better Frank and temper his own aspirations to suit her own.

Though, in the end, this brought about the end of their relationship when they both had very different ideas on how to move forward, and before we could see the true fallout between them Spacey was fired and Francis died.

Season 6 wasn't the triumph that the showrunners or the cast had hoped it would be, however, Robin Wright pushed Claire to her limits and delivered another brilliant turn in her final outing.

The thing that was, not missed, but definitely unable to be replaced was that Claire was at her best when she and Francis were both working toward their ends. Without Spacey it was all on Wright to shoulder the entire series and though she held it up enough to pass, it was too much of an ask without another pair of arms to shoulder the burden.

Claire Underwood will go down as one of the greatest characters in TV history and rightly so, for when the chips were down she was better at playing the game than anyone, even Francis.
