7. Kevin Spacey's Monstrously Brilliant Performance (Of Course)

From his opening hearing scene onwards, Kevin Spacey once again gives a magnificently slimy yet infectiously charming performance as Frank Underwood.

It's shocking that Spacey hasn't yet won an Emmy for his performance (despite being nominated every time), and season five absolutely gives him another impeccable opportunity, especially as the new batch of episodes makes him older, creepier and more dangerously desperate than ever.

At this point it'd be easy for Spacey to spin his wheels and just phone Frank in, but his work feels just as fresh and uniquely terrifying as it did way back at the start of the show.

From the savage fourth wall-breaking moments to the loaded glances and everything in-between, Spacey again proves himself a master of his craft.
