House Of The Dragon: Everything We Know So Far

9. It Is Based On 'Fire & Blood'

The two years between season seven and season eight of Game of Thrones seemed like an eternity at the time, but just imagine what fans of the Song of Ice and Fire books are going through. This year will make it a full decade since 'A Dance With Dragons: After the Feast' was released.

Readers have been waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for ten years, waiting to enjoy the next instalment, while George R. R. Martin has seemingly placed his focus elsewhere. One such area of his world that has been explored instead of completing the main series of novels is the documenting of the Targaryen family history.

In 2018, 'Fire and Blood' was published, detailing the first part of the Targaryen rule in Westeros, from Aegon I who conquered the country 300 years before Daenerys' story, to Aegon III, 157 years later. It is from these words that House of the Dragon will be adapted.

Specifically, the events will take place during King Viserys' reign on the Iron Throne, though the casting of the young version of several characters suggests either flashbacks, or potentially even multiple timelines in a similar style to the first season of The Witcher.
