It's gonna be Legen-wait for it because CBS has officially renewed How I Met Your Mother for a 9th and sadly final season-Dary! All of the series regulars, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris will return - as will the series creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
"Through eight years, 'How I Met Your Mother' has mastered the art of leading-edge comedy, emotional water-cooler moments and pop culture catch phrases", CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said. "We are excited for Carter, Craig, Pam Fryman and this amazing cast to tell the final chapter and reveal television's most mysterious mother to some of TV's most passionate fans".
Of course the show's fate was in question at one point, as the casts contracts expired at the end of the 8th season and rumours were that Jason Segel was reluctant to return for a final season with his film career growing year-on-year.
"It's a tricky thing. There's a lot of people involved in a decision like that. But luckily everybody made the same one and came on board", Smulders told E online. "I sort of thought it was going to happen and then around the holidays when it started feeling like, 'Oh, it might not (happen),' it made me really sad. Because it's the end of an era and 'How I Met Your Mother' has become like a second home to me. So it'll be nice starting season nine knowing this is it. Soak it in. Really be grateful and enjoy this last year".
When asked about the plan for the final season, she replied;
"I don't really know their intention for next season. I know they've figured it out. I know they've figured out everything."
