How I Met Your Mother: The Best Episode From Every Season

6. Season 4: The Leap

Season 4 is a rough season for Ted. He gets left at the Altar, knocked out by a crazed bartender, fired, and beaten up by a goat. This is why the season finale, The Leap, ranks as the season's best outing.

The episode sees Ted struggling to design a restaurant shaped like a cowboy hat on the night of his thirty-first birthday, just after turning down a job as a professor that Stella's new husband Tony offered him. Meanwhile, his friends throw him a surprise party on the roof, at which Marshall vows to jump over to the neighboring building.

Additionally, Robin finds out that Barney is in love with her. She doesn't know how to react to the news, so she tries "Mosby-ing" him, as in, telling him she loves him too so that he will not have feelings anymore. After 20 minutes of Mosby-ing each other, the pair finally kiss.

Towards the end of the episode, Marshall finally makes that titular leap between buildings. In one of the best scenes of the series, the rest of the gang follow suit, and one by one jump to the roof next door as a powerful, sweeping song plays. When it's Ted's turn to jump, he recounts all of the horrible things that happened to him over the course of the year, and decides to take both the literal and metaphorical leap by hopping buildings and starting a new job as a professor. Had Ted not taken this job, he would have never met the Mother.

Season 4 has several great episodes, such as The Best Burger in New York, Intervention, Little Minnesota, Benefits, and The Possimpible, but because The Leap ends the season so perfectly, it wins out as the best episode of Season 4.
