5. Marshall Ericksen - Stabbed Lily (By Accident)

Marshall Ericksen is so gentle and sweet that if he were in a Disney movie, woodland creatures would swarm around him and sing sweet melodies as they frolic in blissful harmony. Indeed, although it would appear that although Marshall couldn't hurt a fly, he most certainly did stab his fiancé.

In season one episode 8 titled The Duel, Marshall and Ted are having a heated argument as to who gets the apartment after Lily and Marshall get married. During their squabble, Marshall decides to take down two decorative swords and replace it with one of Lily's paintings. When Ted argues that the swords are a metaphor for their friendship and he feels replaced, he lashes out and swings a sword at Marshall thus beginning their duel.

The two knuckleheads soon forget their argument and begin to clash swords together whilst adding new choreography to their tomfoolery. For dramatic effect, Marshall climbs upon the coffee table and takes an almighty swipe at Ted.

The table eventually gives way under Marshall's weight just as Lily enters the room. Marshall is unable to slow himself down from falling off the table and stabs Lily whilst off balance.
