Although the show has a strong fan base and critical success, the FX series Justified may still be the most underrated program currently on television today. The show isnt necessarily a hard sell to modern audiences. Based on the short story Fire in the Hole by Elmore Leonard (Jackie Brown, 3:10 to Yuma), Justified centers on the adventures of gun slinging United States Deputy Marshal Raylan Givens played by Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Hitman). After moving from Miami back to his home state of Kentucky, Raylan is tasked with taking down the local crime that has developed there. With an impressive supporting cast and captivating storytelling, the gripping crime drama has only gotten better with each passing seasons. If you arent sold already, here are five reasons why you should stop watching Storage Wars reruns, and start watching Justified.
5. The Modern Western
A small crime filled rural town protected by a cowboy hat wearing lawman already sounds like every Clint Eastwood movie ever made. But this isnt Hang Em High, this is Justified. Justified takes place in modern times and deals with modern cases such as drugs, hate crimes, and child molestation. The writers take these modern problems and combine them with elements from classic westerns. The mid-western aesthetic creates a background for these characters that feels both old and new. Producer Graham Yost has successfully created a hybrid genre that plays homage to westerns while also reintroducing them to a new generation.
