The premise of the Kingdom Come comics revolves around the disbandment of the Justice League and the subsequent retirement of most heroes. Why? Public sentiment regarding what superheroes should or should not do began to change, with the whole 'kill or no kill' debate being ignited once more.

At the centre of it all was a new superhero named Magog. Unlike his elder statesmen, he had no qualms whatsoever regarding the use of lethal force and demonstrated that when he murdered the Joker.

Seeing how this violent, untrustworthy individual was being hailed as a public hero, Clark and co. decide that the world has indeed passed them by and the best they can do now is let the new generation take over.

While it remains to be seen what state we find the CW’s Kingdom Come universe when it debuts on our screens, chances are neither Routh nor Conroy will be in a fighting mood initially when the Crisis arrives.
