Loki: 10 Insane Fan Theories That Could Come True
4. Variant Loki Is Already Dead
In the upcoming series, Loki is what is referred to by the TVA as a Variant. Essentially, he shouldn't exist, but due to the timeline being messed up, he does anyway. When he stole the Tesseract and used it to escape the Avengers, he landed himself on Mobius' radar.
With all this happening on a different timeline, the fate of the original Loki is, in theory, unchanged. He still went on to grow as a character through The Dark World and Ragnarok, and ultimately sacrifice himself to save his brother at the beginning of Infinity War. But, what if this Loki was actually the Variant all along?
Just because Infinity War hasn't happened yet when the events of Loki take place, doesn't mean the TVA don't know it will. They can seemingly move across any and all timelines, so there's no reason to believe they can't see what will happen in the future, or that Loki won't ultimately make it back to his original timeline.
Back in 2012, there wouldn't have been many things that Loki would have sacrificed himself for, except maybe himself. One fan theory suggests that, seeing that his life may be coming to a dead end with the TVA, he switched himself into the original Loki's place to die for him, so the original may continue on. There has always been something that seemed out of character about Loki's death in Infinity War, and this would both explain such a feeling, and allow the character to return later in the MCU.
