Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs

9. Down - An Irritating Trope

There is a trope that is often used throughout TV and cinema where a certain character has important information to get across, but for one reason or another cannot properly communicate it. This leads to a misunderstanding with someone else that could have been avoided had the first character just given all the information they had in the first place.

It's understandable why this kind of interaction is used, as such misunderstanding can advance the plot or initiate conflict, but in the first episode of Loki, it was just slightly irritating.

When Thor's brother returned from the End of Time, by way of slipping to the past a couple of times, he finally found the right Mobius. However, all he gave everyone's favourite TVA employee were snippets of vague information with no context, surrounding the Citadel at the End of Time, He Who Remains, and what Sylvie did, and it's no surprise that Mobius didn't know what he was on about.

No character is perfect, and Loki was of course flustered, but all he needed to do was slow down for a second and actually explain properly to Mobius what had been happening, and he would have gotten his point across a lot quicker and a lot more eloquently.
